About Kachinas
Both Hopi and Navajo Native Americans have a tradition of using kachinas, which represent different spiritual beings. Hopi kachinas are traditionally carved from a single piece of cottonwood root. The Navajo sachinas, also called Navajo dolls, can be made from multiple pieces of wood and are usually embellished with pieces of leather, feathers, cloth, or other items.
