Prosperity Tips #121
In This Issue + Are You Ashamed of Your Financial Situation? + Interview on BlogTalkRadio.com + Hot Links ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Are You Ashamed of Your Financial Situation?
My basic theory is that people create their life stories to act out hidden emotions. When something happens, instead of asking, "Why is this happening to me?" the question becomes "What do I need this?" and the answer always relates to a feeling that is buried inside and needs to be expressed.
So if, for example, you lose money through an investment, your need to express loss, grief, abandonment, shame, disappointment, or betrayal would be behind the choices in investment vehicles you made.
In my book, Build Your Money Muscles, I talk about the five major emotions and their variations that are acted out through money: abandonment, shame, anger, deprivation, and a sense of being trapped. In my experience, people who have money discomforts have elements of each of these playing out through their finances.
If you look at the current world financial crisis, one of the main emotions coming up for individuals and businesses people is shame. Foreclosures, serious credit card debt, difficulty getting credit, and stock market losses all have an element of shame in them.
We live in a shame-based society where feelings of shame start developing in early childhood and are acted out over and over again though life stories. Look at recent news stories and you'll see how prominent people reflect our shame through their stories. Elliot Spitzer and his wife are perfect examples of a public expression of our shame.
Taking Shame Out of Your Finances In order to alter your financial position and put aside whatever financial discomforts you might have, requires addressing the shame that you very well may be carrying with you.
This means becoming aware of your feelings of shame, learning how to release them, developing new emotional responses, and establishing healthy financial behaviors. Although this may seem daunting, especially if you normally are not in touch with your emotions, techniques exist that can help even the most emotionally stuck people move forward.
A New Audio Program To help you get in touch with the shame and take some simple steps to heal it, I have just completed a new audio called Healing Your Financial Shame.
This one CD has an enormous amount of information including: * Where shame comes from--information that will help you understand the "why." * The simple steps you can take to recognize and release your shame without having to spend a lot of time reliving the past. * How to overcome your resistance to change * Techniques for getting rid of the critical voice in your head that keeps perpetrating your shame and much more
